We got a broad question from Gurry over at our pink "How to start a blog" site, where you can ask all your questions and we will answer them!
Since this is a question about making money, of course we tackle it here 
How to make money
This is a broad question, so we will condense everything in one post, which means for deeper explanations about making money, please ask a more specific question!
1. Let money make more money
- buy wisdom and use it to your benefit!
- buy a product and resell it
- buy a few products, recombine them and sell it (buy water, sugar and fruit and sell it as marmalade)
- put your money in a savings account
- put your money in funds
- put your money in the stock market but make sure you know what you are doing, otherwise go for funds
- pay others to do the work for you and sell their product or service
2. Work hard for the money
- get a dayjob
- start blogging and make money online
- combine the above: get a dayjob and start blogging during office hours to make money online
3. Try your luck
- buy a lottery ticket
- look for a dollar bill in your socks (yes, most likely you will be as lucky here as when buying a lottery ticket )
4. Do things that are not allowed
Unfortunately there are a lot of ways to make money illegally. They look attractive but you risk your freedom. Buying a lottery ticket you only risk your money.
Once you have made your money, you need to spend it wisely. The main killer for your personal wealth are credit cards charging you a ridiculous high amount of interest.
Make sure you earn money for yourself and not for the bank!

In short you can go through the list of 4 money makers above and use it to make money online.
We are making money doing most of the work ourselves and sometimes we ask other people to do the work for us: they write a post for us and most likely they will add their link in their post. If you feel your website can use some extra advertisement and buzz, just write a post and leave a comment over at How to start a blog.

Alvin Phang’s blog got hacked when he was upgrading to Wordpress 2.5.1.
It took him about a day to be online like before, where using my affordable web hosting I am online again cleaned from all malicious software in less than an hour.
But Alvin’s question is: Wordpress 2.5.1 Should You Upgrade?
To answer this question: look at the picture below and give your honest first impression:
Even without knowing what the whole idea is all about, you spot that "stuff for sale here" is quite odd compared with all the seemingly sophisticated other concepts.
A similar approach is needed when you make money online. You need to ask youself:
are your components and efforts in sinc or
is there a noticeable weakest link that should be upgraded/improved upon?
If you hardly have any visitors, then chance is small hackers will be interested in your site, so which version of Wordpress you are using shouldn’t be your biggest concern. Even if you get hacked and your site goes down, you won’t notice it when your earnings are little anyway.
But when you have a well visited site like Alvin’s, you should consider to change your webhost from the cheapest of the cheapest Hostgator to any affordable web hosting. Why?
- because a decent webhost won’t shut your site down once your traffic spikes (Hostgator will because they oversell what they have: bandwidth needs to be paid!!!)
- a decent webhost cannot afford that their client is down for the whole day, so they will work with you to make sure you and they are happy and your site will be online ASAP.
So if you are serious about making money online, check out if your tools are in sinc:
- your webhost : mine is always in sinc because that’s the deal me and my web host agreed upon: If I get more visitors using more bandwidth means I opt for a bigger package quick and easy.
- your computer
- your Internet connection
- your knowledge (if you don’t know how to monetize a blog, then don’t spend money on anything else but knowledge first!)
- your efforts
- your software tools (and only now we consider Alvin’s question: WP2.3 or 2.5.1?)
Make sure yourself, your tools and your partners are in sinc when you are serious in making money online! Things that are below standards of the rest, need to be upgraded first!

Whatever you do, make sure you do not give up, evaluate yourself and improve yourself

- you look for information where to go
- you choose a destination
- you decide how long you will go
- you look for the best ways to get there
- you find out what things you can do there
- you book some tours and taxis to not waste time once you arrive
What do you do BEFORE you make money on the Internet?
… now this will look familiar…
- you look for information where to go

Or if you want to use real money making terms:
- you look for information where you want to make money in (your passion, your skills, people’s problems, supply, demand…)
- you choose a destination (you pick a passion that CAN earn you money)
- you decide how long you will go (when do you want to earn how much money?)
- you look for the best ways to get there (blog, website, write an ebook…)
- you find out what things you can do there (mingle with the newbies and become their teacher, mingle with the others, produce useful info, point to better sites…)
- you book some tours and taxis to not waste time once you arrive:
- do you do all on your own and spend lots of time or
- do you spend some money and save lots of time
But I already have a website, now what…
If you are like me and already have a website that makes money, keep with it but make some extra time for :
- evaluating,
- focusing and
- planning.
Evaluate if you are really happy with what you are doing? If not, then where are you not happy? This will be the start for improvement.

It’s all in the FOCUS, and in our case: the lack of it. In stead of rambling about all this in 1 blog, I better break it up in 5 blogs. "Deconstruct and reconstruct"…
Planning: Step of the sink and swim idea and start planning where you want to swim to. Once you know where you want to go, you can break it up in little steps.
How easy is that?
Very easy to say but rest assured: this can take a whole month to get yourself ready.
