If you have a cat, you will have noticed that they are mostly sleeping around. And people reward them with giving food, shelter and love…

Now if animals can do "nothing" but seemingly living a better lifestyle than some of us so called smart humans, we should be able to do something similar, or even better.

One reason I have a toplist directory that you can join for free to become blog of the weekend is to learn from the top listed sites "how they do it".

And the most intriguing of them all is the Joey Moggie’s blog:

Why intriguing? Because unlike the other top blog fracas attracting lots of visitors by writing lots of quality posts, Joey Moggie didn’t update her blog for 2 months and still ranks on top in our toplist directory.

What’s the secret of attracting lots of visitors

• lots of hard work
• the search engines picking up your hard work

Joey Moggie did something right, and now can sit back and relax. Same with cats: one moment in history they did something right, and now they can sit back and relax.

Making money with doing nothing

You can make lots of money writing paid to blog posts, but that’s lots and lots of work. As soon as you stop writing, your money stops coming in. In other words: it’s quick and easy money without any investment benefits.

If you had a blog or website like Joey Moggie, you just put Adsense or Bidvertiser on it and tadaa: the money comes in because you are attracting visitors. Sooner or later somebody will click some advertisement.

Do I choose Adsense or Bidvertiser?

If you are a regular, you must have noticed that there have been a few weeks that I was using Bidvertiser, where now I am using Adsense again. Why?

Because I couldn’t find any decent website that convinced me that one was better than the other. Since I am back using Adsense, you can see what I think works best for me

Adsense Bidvertiser case study

You only know when you try, there is no "one answer fits all websites".

When I changed to Bidvertiser, I wasn’t ranking on top in my toplist directory. I noticed that Bidvertiser seemed to pay out higher click-prices than Adsense. Which was quite a shocker as I just like you have been reading about those expensive Adsense keywords out there… I was nicely earning more with Bidvertiser than with Adsense!

Remember: people are competing with each other, so what is true and what is hype?

Then I started to get more visitors and noticed the Bidvertiser Click through was not rising at the same paste.

That’s when I went back to Adsense just to find out that their ads where slightly more on topic than the Bidvertiser ads. Although a lower pay out, at the end of the day I was earning more with Adsense.

So here is the deal: comparing is difficult, which explains why both Adsense and Bidvertiser are still alive.

You need to try it out for yourself and see what happens and you need to know: having more visitors doesn’t always mean earning equally more money.

For me finding out exactly what’s happening behind the Bidvertiser and Adsense scenes is way too complicated and time consuming. So I just go for what I saw and my gut feeling.

Mind you: I do have a website running Bidvertiser in stead of Adsense as well. Same logic: try and see and Bidvertiser seems to do much better than Adsense there.

Summarized: try and see. Again: do your own homework and you don’t need anybody else’s advice

You can do nothing and earn money with Adsense just like your cat doesn’t do anything and gets your food.

But: before you can live like a cat: you do need to work hard in order to get your visitors coming day after day!

The other news about Nurin was : if you circulate her pictures, you can get a fine of US $16.000… That’s another way of putting the name Nurin in the news without solving the case and pointing the attention to all but the case!

It’s sad to see Pak Lah speaking on TV to "his" astronaut but not taking the opportunity to address the rape of Nurin and how everybody should nourish their children for a better future. Not to mention education: what about launching a real school for astronauts in stead of bying a spot on a spaceship?

PayPerPost sacks non US posties

Biggest draw back is the geographical segmentation: the easiest way for PayPerPost to weed out non English speaking blogs is to look where their author lives These months I live in Asia and according to the PPP forum: our English is below standard. So dear Prime Minister of Malaysia: if you want our country not to be a laughing stock on the international market, please get us our English education back!

What went wrong?

1. PayPerPost: "rockstartup" or "the promised land" for paid to post bloggers closed its borders to non US bloggers in the name of only wanting quality English blogs. In my opinion the wrong way of looking for quality English, but with 40.000 bloggers to choose from, the most cost-effective way for PayPerPost
2. Advertlets, our local advertising service is not performancing enough to fill the gab PayPerPost made. Maybe
   I should have a look at our other advertiser: Nuffnang again.
3. I am behind schedule doing some geeky techcrunch stuff

What went right?

1. I finally got my Wanna be on Top Add Your Link directory working. Whoever gets on top in a category will become Blog of the weekend (see my previous post: Wanna be on top? )
2. Total Earnings $ 326.75 is back on target ($ 320)
3. Passive income from advertising is on the rise (It’s always nice to wake up and see you made money )
4. I bought a new computer, so my tools are ok
5. Lots of linky love has been given back to me: priceless!
6. The favicon matrix is working again, so you get more links when you jump on board! And if needed, just ask me to make you a favicon, it’s FREE
7. Sweat, blood and tears were converted just nicely, although greedy me is never satisfied

Challenges to come

This month I have to bring in $ 320 and as mentioned before: the PayPerPost egg in my basket broke This means again new resources has to be drilled.

The advantage is that in my blogroll and in my Wanna be on Top Add Your Link directory are some gems of blogs that are just waiting to be discovered

It’s going to be a tough month, but the more they hit you on the face, the stronger you become (unless you die first… )

What went wrong?

I can start being a politician saying: "I spent all my energy in gathering more links, SEO, Internet Marketing"…

Blablabla: it is dead simple: it’s earnings that count, and the earnings this month were lousy, why?

1. Hit and run earnings

Last month (Month 2 earnings) I got 26$ with Bloggerwave. Unfortunately Bloggerwave has completely dried out. Quick and easy money without any future planning.

(if you want to know why Malaysian economy is going through the drain, this is exactly why: hit and run, earn now, forget about tomorrow… )

2. Using the wrong tools

I want to make money online but I use a sexy laptop and an even more sexy BlackBerry: both made to use when "on the move" and being contact-able worldwide 24h/7; far from ideal when it comes to basics:

• a computer that works
• a fast Internet connection

(Virus QDial-44 has been eating my CPU usage)

3. Sit back and relax

I was surprised how my first 2 months were nicely above target, so I "took it easy". Wrong strategy… !

If you want to make money on the Internet and you are starting from scratch, you better make sure you keep focused and work hard!

4. No niche market

You by now have seen all the links on my site to 1001 other websites trying to make money online. Meaning that in the search engines I am competing:

• with the big guys (John Chow to name 1) and
• with a lot of others websites having the same "make money online" topic

Double trouble… After 3 months this results in about 2% of my visitors coming from the search engines. 2% is a nice way to say almost zero… Another reason why I was way to early to sit back and relax.

How to make more money online

I got my wake up call so what’s next:

• getting a sturdy working computer and since I have this laptop, that will be my backup tool
• going all the way:
• find more ways to make money online and
• work harder, work more
• get more visitors

So this month is going to be "make or break" with a target of $160.

It will be very interesting to see what new ways of earning money on the Internet I will find
