That’s the time where you need to force yourself to "start all over again". Just that you do have the advantage not having to start from scratch, but you start from what you have already.

I found this secret on the spot for my French Swear Words blog, but I am still looking for the affiliate that matches Linky Love.

How to find the perfect affiliate?

• it should be on topic with your website
• you should have tried it out yourself so you can prove that it works (in stead of saying: I used this magic e-book and it promises the sky, but I am still blogging hard to make ends meet… that doesn’t add up does it?)
• if one doesn’t work, try the next until you find it (now here I wished I had a better method)

If you read my post of last Friday: How to blog better, you will have noticed I am starting to promote a new affiliate to make money on the Internet from Alvin Phang. Why?

Just when you think Linky Love is doing everything right in order to show you by example how to make money online, Adsense ^TM kicks me out of their advertising service on Valentine’s day.

Sob, sob: we are called Linky Love dot NET and what do we get on Valentine? Kicked out…

Why?

So you wonder why we are kicked out of Adsense ^TM… Beats me.

Anyway, their email stated:

1. you cannot tell people to click on links… OR
2. you confuse people that Advertisement is actual website content…

Now it would have helped a lot when they would have told me what the real problem was, so I could have fixed it on the spot. Now I have to guess and since I never win at the lottery, most likely I won’t guess what’s wrong either.

So I asked them: please be more clear… That was 2 days ago and no answer… for a firm that has lots and lots of eager workers, one would have expected a swift reply.

Why again?

1. I don’t tell people to click on their ads. I am not crazy to kick myself out of a program that is almost my solely source of income. And my click through rate is so low… Come on: this can’t be the problem.
2. Ok, I do admit that the advertisements blend in at my blog. That’s what Adsense ^TM advises you to do, so that’s what I do.

Why really?

I make sure that I don’t show any private parts, no guns, no hatred (hint, hint Linky LOVE is the name…) so all I can think of is that somebody does hate me, tells Adsense ^TM to ban me, and that’s what happened…

What to do when you are banned?

1. Ask why.
2. Don’t put all your eggs in 1 basket. I could easily switch to Clicksor or Bidvertiser or…, yet I am really curious why I am banned. The most important road in life is to learn and improve, so I am going to sit this one out.
3. Know that the Internet is a very volatile environment. Like they say on America’s next top model : one day you are in, the next day you are out. Oops, wrong show… this is a Heidi Klum quote…
4. Always be on the lookout for new opportunities
5. Never ever make enemies on the Internet

What is the future of Linky Love?

First we will use this as a case study: if you read the TOS of Adsense ^TM , they can ban you without any reason given so… Are we such a case? We need to think advertisers: are we bad enough to not give advertisers a good ROI?

Quite simple: we show by example how to make money on the Internet. Of course you would have hoped that you could make 1000$ a month after 10 weeks, but the reality is quite different: probloggers mostly are veterans on the Internet.

We will wait a few days for an answer of Adsense ^TM. Once we know what we need to change, we will change it.

The average over our first 9 months is about 300$ a day. That’s cute if you make less but that’s quite little if you need to support yourself, let alone your family.

So is Linky Love THE place to be to learn about making money online? Well: if you want to be a full time blogger, you need more advice than Linky Love is giving you by example.

French Swear Words is a money making machine

Where I am making my money on the Internet these days is at French Swear Words. If you have a look at my $713 month 6 earnings you see that:

I spent $47 and bought the Super Affiliate Handbook from Rosalind Gardner. In her book she teaches you how to pick the best affiliate programs!

I applied the Super Affiliate Handbook techniques and earned the first month about $300 dollars selling French courses. Invest less than $50 and make 300$…

The next month my income doubled, where Linky Love’s earnings without affiliate income were stagnating…

So the problem I have now is: yes I know how to make money online, but I cannot show it with Linky Love as an example.

You could say: why don’t I sell more affiliate stuff here? Because you can read in the Super Affiliate Handbook that once you find a winner, stick to it, don’t waste time looking for another winner if yo are happy with what you earn. And I am very happy

1. make sure that a user clicks on an advertising link, not any link
   TODO: get rid of all these links on the frontpage that are not earning any money
2. make sure that your contextual ads are having a nice payout
   TODO: heoretically use Google Adwords and see which ads pay well, then attract those ads on your website.
   Practically: don’t ramble around like I do about Charlène Vanneste if you write a blog about how to make money online. A French subject like Charlène Vanneste should go on my French blog...
   If you ramble about anything and everything, you could end up with a high visitors count, yet a very low payment of the advertising you are showing.
   Stick to 1 topic where the ads are well paid and you have lot’s of things to say about.
3. attract more visitors
   TODO: source new visitors with new SEO ideas, marketing ideas, communities… don’t just do what you are doing now
   (quite vague, best thing is to go and read other blogs and get new, fresh ideas! : step out of your comfortzone!)

How to improve writing reviews for money?

You need to improve your blog according to the guidelines given by any of the paid to blog services.

• Personally I am very disappointed with PayPerPost having a RealRank 1 didn’t give me any big opportunity.
• Blogsvertise and Smorty still rely on PageRank, which for a blog with a high amount of visitors like mine, I love ReviewMe and SponsoredReviews.

Yet, last month there was no money coming in from any of these blogging for money services, so :

Again: go to other sites and see what they are doing when it comes to making money online.

So if you are a fresh visitor, you know that you could find what you are looking for.

Gwen’s title is clear, yet the subtitle is way too long.
So if you are a fresh visitor, you are not completely sure what you could find here.And if you feel lost, most likely you go somewhere else…

3. More content

Like Steve, author of Kylie, comments when Linky Love featured him as Blog of the Weekend:

Regular updates are the key to success of course and keeping the content fresh is a must too.

• Kylie has 118 posts,
• Gwen only has 14 posts.

Again: It doesn’t need rocket science to know that more content could mean:

1. your fresh visitors will find what they are looking for
2. your fresh visitors want to return because there could be more interesting posts soon

Being Lazy and using the Website Grader we learn:

Consider a link as your name-card: if Gwen only has 37 name-cards "out there" compared to 2122 Kylie name-cards…

After comparing: make a todo list

Especially those online tools are fun when it comes to comparing websites, but you need to do some work now in order to get as good as the site you are comparing yourself with.

My TO DO List:

1. more attractive: add some pictures in the topfold
2. more accurate title: change the subtitle
3. more content: post more regularly (which I am doing from this week on)
4. more links: go and get some linky love …
5. glue this to do list next on my screen!

Evaluation

In one month, we will have a look :

• have I been doing what’s on my TODO list
• are my efforts are paying off
• what I should do to improve
