Finding your niche
How a 2 week old website ranks 2 in Google
By choosing the right niche!
Linkylove.net is only 2 weeks old and look where we are in the search engine:

Linky Love ranking high in about 10 days
Why do I rank high?
Because I deserve to rank high
You need to read Step 2 : How to make a good website to get the full picture of what follows below.
Linky Love – Blogossary ranks higher because:
- Their title is Linky Love
- Their page is much older than my Linky Love
- Their description contains the keywords Linky Love
- They say exactly what linky love is all about, so they deserve to rank number 1
It is as simple as that…
Reality check: I just explained why Linky Love – Blogossary ranks high…
Why do I rank high again?
Because I deserve to rank high
… and I know about niche marketing!
The keyword here is "niche".
Niche definition
Niche is an overused word on the Internet. It basically means:
- what I do
- in my territory
Example; in the territory of a small village, the backer and the butcher are 2 niches in that village.
A second butcher will needs lots more effort to get his business going compared to the first new restaurant in the village.
Marketing niche strategy
Have a look again at the search engine screen-shot above and you notice there are only 943.000 Linky Love search results.
Now look at the search engine screen-shot below:

If you look for "make money online", you will get 118 MILLION Make Monley Online search results. That’s 100 times more + :
- above the rankings some paid Make Money site.
- number 1 : Bidvertiser: a big business with lots of people to do their SEO and Internet marketing
- number 2 : John Chow : 1 smart, aggressive web-entrepreneur who blogs for money
Now what is the easiest:
- winning a swimming contest in the dessert where nobody has ever seen a swimming pool or
- winning an Olympic swimming contest where you have to compete against "everybody"
Summary: the smaller your niche (competitor field) is, the easier you can rank high!
How to find a "good" niche?
Again the basics:
- your niche has to give what your visitors are looking for
- a good niche is a lot of people looking for something that is rare
Again lots of work:
Not like they say at skyrocket your google rankings in five minutes : it can take up to 1 day to find a niche with a decent amount of visitors and not too many websites!
- http://inventory.overture.com : to find what people are looking for
- google.com, yahoo.com, msn.com : to find how many people you have to compete with
You will need to go down the inventory list 1 by 1 until you find a little amount of page results.
What is little? Little means that after a few weeks you see your website on the first page of the search results.
You can take my example but you need to play around yourself with it as well. You need to become a master in finding a niche if you don’t feel like putting effort in competing against already well established big guys.

Nice post I wrote something similar on using a keyword you want to promote as your name in the “post by” title. So because you use Linky Love this will be picked up on every post you write.
How many people though do you think will seach for Linky Love? This might be of some help if you haven’t seen it before: http://inventory.overture.com
